DEA Releases Rule on E-Prescribing of Controlled Substances

The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) has published a long-delayed interim final rule, with a comment period, to permit electronic prescriptions for controlled substances.* The rule is available through the Federal Register's public inspection site. It was officially published on March 31, and can go into effect 60 days later (as early as June 1, 2010). [more]

In response to these timeline announcements, the Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology (CCHIT®) published the 2009-2010 certification criteria and announced a delay to the start of the 2009 CCHIT certification cycle.
