LSS, ARRA and CCHIT® Certification

The general hum of the HIT industry has increased to a fevered pitch with the passing of the federal stimulus package. Specifically, there has been significant interest in the requirement of using certified EHR systems. The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009 includes significant investments in healthcare information technology infrastructure (HITECH Act).
Although there is not yet a confirmed certifying body or process for the stimulus package, the Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology (CCHIT®) has been the only federally-recognized benchmark for ambulatory EHR products up to this point. LSS has passed the rigorous certification process in order to offer CCHIT Certified® products since the initial certification cycle in 2006. Our intent is to continue to make available products which meet the requirements of certification.
Products CCHIT Certified against ambulatory EHR criteria in 2006 & 2007 expire after a three year certification maintenance period; products certified in 2008 will expire in two years from date of certification. LSS maintains actively 2006 and 2007 certified ambulatory EHR products against the respective criterion for these years. The 2008 window for certification is still open through June of 2009 and we are currently pursuing certification of our Client/Server 5.6 product against the 2008 CCHIT ambulatory criteria. The 2009 CCHIT certification cycle runs from July 2009 through June 2010. We are evaluating the 2009 requirements with the intent to certify current releases of both Client/Server and MAGIC for this certification cycle.
As the final standards and processes emerge, LSS will continue to provide products that meet the highest standards of certification and which allow our customers to be eligible for incentives and grants, including those now available through the HITECH Act. We will continue to enhance and expand upon our robust suite of products and services so that we can best help enable our customers to reach their goals.
