CCHIT® 2009-2010 Certification Criteria Approved and Timeline Extended

The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) and Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) continue to clarify the HITECH portion of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), with implementation plans published earlier this week. In response to these timeline announcements, the Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology (CCHIT®) published the 2009-2010 certification criteria and announced a delay to the start of the 2009 CCHIT certification cycle.
In the wake of all this, LSS stands by its commitment to continue to provide certified products that meet the qualifications set forth in the ARRA. LSS remains focused on offering certified products in both our MAGIC and C/S platforms.
On May 19, CCHIT announced the approval of final 2009-2010 criteria for certification of Ambulatory, Inpatient and Emergency Department electronic health records (EHR), as well as for newly developed stand-alone Electronic Prescribing certification. In addition to detailed criteria and test scripts, CCHIT will publish a companion guide mapping the criteria to the characteristics of a qualified EHR as described in the ARRA. CCHIT will publish these materials on May 29 at http://www.cchit.org.
The vendor application process for 2009-2010 certification was initially planned to begin in July 2009, but with the recently released Program Implementation Plan for ONC it will most likely begin after late August, when ONC plans to submit the draft rules for standards and certification criteria to HHS. CCHIT has stated they will release an updated Certification Handbook and announce further details regarding application for 2009-2010 certifications in June or July.
