LSS Joins Key Leaders at National Health IT Week
October 6, 2009
With 2009 designated by the current Administration as the Year of Healthcare Transformation, the Fourth Annual National Health IT Week (September 21-25) provided an opportunity to advance the use of health information technology in reforming healthcare. The collaborative forum assembled key healthcare constituents — vendors, provider organizations, payers, pharmaceutical/biotech companies, government agencies, industry/professional associations, research foundations, and consumer protection groups — working together to elevate national attention to the necessity of advancing health IT. LSS Data Systems joined approximately 75 public and private sector organizations in Washington, D.C., to participate in a range of events intended to inform the nation's policymakers about the importance of fostering widespread health IT adoption to improve patient safety and healthcare quality.
Key events during the week included:
- HIMSS 8th Annual Policy Summit
- Advocacy Meetings with Congressional Members and Staff
- Capitol Hill Healthcare Informatics Technology Showcase
As part of the advocacy efforts, LSS met with Senators Al Franken and Amy Klobuchar as well as staff from several other Congressional offices. During these meetings LSS conveyed appreciation for the recognition of the importance of health information technology in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA), while stressing the need for leadership and oversight to ensure that all timelines are met. All Congressional offices expressed widespread support for health information technology in the healthcare reform efforts currently underway.
In the coming weeks and months LSS will continue to engage in healthcare reform discussions and advocate for the vital role of health information technology in any proposed legislation.
